What is Discernment?

Discernment is the prayerful process of seeking to understand God’s voice and discovering your vocation in life, whether it’s the priesthood, or consecrated life. Through reflection, prayer, and guidance from spiritual mentors, individuals open their hearts to hear God’s voice and uncover His will. Discernment involves listening to God in prayer and responding with faith, as He leads you to a deeper purpose in service to the Church.

Whether you’re called to be a diocesan priest, join a religious order, embrace consecrated life, or start a holy marriage, discernment helps you clarify and commit to your path.

Our 3-Step Plan

Prayer

To hear God's call clearly, you'll need a committed prayer life that includes listening for God in silence.

Openness

God reveals His will to those who are ready to listen with an open heart. An open heart is one that says: "not my will, but your will be done.”

Accompaniment

Discernment was never meant to be done alone. We walk with you in your search for God's plan for your life.

The diocesan priesthood is a life of spiritual fatherhood, bringing the Sacraments to the faithful, and celebrating the liturgy. As a priest, you become a shepherd to God’s people, helping them grow in faith and offering spiritual leadership in the Church.

Women in consecrated life respond to God’s call with a profound commitment to prayer, community, and service. Whether living in a religious order, ecclesial movement, or by yourself as a consecrated virgin, consecrated women devote their lives to being a visible sign of Christ’s love and grace in the world.
